Jan Owen Art Calligraphic Artist Books
I collect words, beautiful and important words to write with a dip pen like scribes before me. I select various authors on a theme to have dialogues across time. With pens, brushes, ink, acrylics, handmade and decorated papers, I create artist books. There is the joy of art and craft in the design and making of a bookMy computer is quick access to unlimited information but it lacks the visual space of a library and the heft of a book. Words on a computer screen do not show the human gesture of thinking and writing. I add layers of text as ideas build on the past and weave to add texture to the page. As I slowly write, I hear the words and hold on to them longer and I want to share that with the viewer.
